To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Levi’s Engineered jeans (the denim of choice for graphic designers in the late ‘90s), we were asked to make a film to introduce the campaign microsite, thetwistedoriginals.com.
Having access to Levi’s’ wealth of archive source material was great, but, like the jeans, we had to make it a little bit twisted and surreal. With such a wide brief, we thought we’d start with audio and asked Brains and Hunch to come up with 3 soundscapes – each with a different personality. They were then mixed together to create a deliberately discordant, trippy sound, which then inspired our animations. Our film includes the three characters created for the project by renowned modelmaker Wilfrid Wood wearing the three different fits of the twisted jeans.
We purposely developed a glitchy look, almost as if the film wasn’t loading properly, to add to its unsettling and twisted atmosphere.
